• Afrique du sud : Strike action hits Kumba Iron Ore

  Wage talks between the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) and Kumba Iron Ore had finally collapsed, paving a way for a historic massive strike action set to begin on Monday.
  The NUM puts a 10% wage demand for category 7-8 ; 9% for category 5-6 and 7,5% for category 3-4. The employer on the other hand offers 9,5% ; 8 ;5% and 7% respectively. • Afrique du sud : COSATU responds to court interdict

  COSATU has noted the Labour Court interdict granted to the state, which prohibits workers in essential services from participating in the public servants strike, from intimidating or assaulting non-striking employees and members of the public, and preventing damage of any property belonging to the state or the erection of obstructions to any state property.

  NUMSA has been engaged in negotiations with the motor employers, namely Retailers Motor Industry (RMI) and Fuel Retailers Association (FRA) under the auspices and watchful eye of the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) to find a lasting settlement on the ongoing wage dispute.

• Afrique du sud : Police shoot striking SADTU members

  SADTU has strongly condemned the shooting of its members with rubber bullets - without any provocation - by metro police during a march in the South of Johannesburg today.
  The shooting left six SADTU members injured - two suffered head wounds.

  Le syndicat national des métallurgistes d’Afrique du Sud (NUMSA) affilié à la FIOM, a mis fin à huit jours de grève après l’acceptation par l’organisation patronale des constructeurs automobiles (AMEO) d’augmenter les salaires de 10 pour cent en 2010.
