The Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT) last week resolved to embark on an indefinite strike to force the Swazi government to increase teachers' salaries by 4.5%.
The strike was initially supposed to take place from the 11th to the 13th of April this year but the teachers' union abandoned it in face of intimidation from the state through both the security apparatus and the courts.
The teachers have since resolved to down their teaching tools and stay away from work until (…)

The Swaziland Solidarity Network proudly welcomes the formation of the Communist Party of Swaziland (CPS). The party was officially launched on the 9th of April 2011 at kaMhlusha, in the Mpumalanga province of South Africa.
It comes at a time when ideological clarity and unity is urgently required in the mass movement for democracy in the country. The party has its ideology rooted in Marxist Leninist principles and is working towards creating a socialist Swaziland. It has made is clear (…)

To the extent to which it doesn't interfere with the work done by the SSN, all organisations are free to do as they please in promoting their campaigns.
What we cannot allow is the hijacking of a programme that we initiated and have been running for more than a month. South African artists make a living out of music. Therefore when they boycott an event they are effectively sacrificing their salaries. It is discourteous to trivialise this by sneaking around making concessions with (…)

Nurses in Swaziland have engaged on a strike to demand government to pay them their overtime allowances which have not been paid since September 2010.
The Swazi Observer reported that this decision was taken on the 9th of March at a meeting of the Swaziland Democratic Nurses Union held in Manzini.
The Secretary of the nurses union, Sibusiso Lushaba, also called on the entire nation to support the strike by forcing government to pay them their dues.
