Socialist Workers League unequivocally condemns all attempts by the Nigerian state to repress the #EndBadGovernance protest movement, including the arrest of Comrade Ayoola Babalola, a journalist and member of the SWL at Abuja, today 3 August. Ayoola and five others are currently being held at the Wuye police station. They were rallying protesters at the MKO Abiola Stadium grounds. They were unarmed and expressing their constitutionally guaranteed freedoms of expression and assembly. (…)

776 Nigerian troops are expected to arrive in Mali today to support the attacks by French forces in the north of Mali. They are expected to be joined by 124 more, and another 2,000 troops from other West African countries. This action confirms Nigeria's imperialist role across West Africa and gives backing to the French attacks which have already killed hundreds with bombing raids on the three main towns of Gao, Kidal and Timbuktu.
Aid agencies expect the number of refugees from (…)

The Federal Government has taught Nigerians a lesson that it should not be trusted ! Government deceived the masses that fuel price increase would be effected on April 1. But the Executive Secretary of the PPPRA, in a Press Release dated 1/1/2012, has sadistically announced a punitive New Year gift that ‘formal removal of subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS)' has commenced with effect from 1 January 2012. In effect, petrol is to be sold at rates ‘to be published fortnightly and posted at (…)

The Federal Government of Nigeria increased the pump price of petrol from N65 to N141 per litre, on January 1. This was in utter contempt of the demonstrated rejection of its plans to deregulate by the mass of Nigerians. To make us lower our guard, the FGN gave the view that it would not remove the so-called subsidy until April. We however remain unshaken in our resolve to RESIST !
It is obvious there was no subsidy on petrol. What government simply seeks to achieve is to increase petrol (…)
