Academic Statement of Solidarity with Sudan
19 mai 2023 05:30 0 messages
As international scholars we are deeply concerned about the violent fighting between the Sudanese Army (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). We note with great sadness and anger the rising toll of deaths and injuries as well as the widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure as the warring parties continue to show no regard for the suffering of the civilian population in Sudan. We condemn unequivocally and in the strongest terms all violations of international law, including the Geneva Conventions.
We urgently call for an immediate ceasefire, the opening of humanitarian corridors and assistance to those fleeing the violence. We demand that all governments halt arms transfers, military, and diplomatic support to the SAF and RSF and exert all efforts to bring the hostilities to an end.
We stand in solidarity with the Sudanese people in support of their revolutionary demands for peace, freedom, and justice. They have never failed to inspire us with their courage and capacity to express the collective will for civilian governance. The actions of the SAF and RSF and their regional sponsors must not be allowed to destroy what the Sudanese people have long fought for.
We join civilian forces in Sudan who are uniting in their condemnation of the war and in their unshaken resolve to build a democratic and peaceful Sudan.
