Briefing on the political situation in Sudan

During the past few weeks a number of serious developments have taken place in Sudan. It was against the background of the regimes war in Southern Kurdfan against the SPLM_Norther Section,which resulted in tens of hundreds of death, distruction of villages and the fleeing of ten of thousands of the people of Southerns Kurdfan to safe areas in the North and to Ethiopia. The regime continued its attacks on the mass movement by violantly suppressing demonstrations in the capital against its economic polcies. This is coupled with constant encrouchment on the democratic rights and liberties as the measures against Almidan,the Sudanese Party communist organ.

The Sudanese regime declared the SPLM Northern Section illegal, closed down its daily paper,and continued the Furtherrmore he stated that a united military leadership was established to lead the struggle hand in hand with other political and civil forces. He expressed his firm attitude that the time is ripe for political change in Sudan.

On another development and contarary to the statements of the Sudanese government that it is about to reach agreement with the UMMA Party,Almahdis Party,the PB of the UMMA Party issued a statement declaring that any agreement with the ruling Party should based on the patriotic agenda. It declared that the Party have refused to form part of a proposed broad government. It went to stress that the UMMA Party will work together with other forces to implement the patriotic agenda with the sole aim to estalish a new democratic regime.
