Yesterday, Tuesday the 11th of October central Khartoum and Omdurman, the two main Sudanese cities, were the scene of mass demonstrations which continued for hours in the night. The demontrators, mainly workers and students, with considerable participation of working women were protesting against the rocketing prices of basic commodities, rising transport fees, and lack of basic services.
The demonstrators called for regime change and demanded respect to human rights, democratic liberties and release of political prisoners and detainees. The peaceful demonstrators clashed with armed security forces. Eye wintness spoke of tens of injured demonstrators including a number of security officers.
